There are many examples of fore-foreshadowing in Of Mice and Men, many of which hint at the death of Lennie. At the beginning, George says " I want you to stay with me, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody would shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself."(12) At the end of the book, he actually gets shot like a dog. Candy's dog was shot by someone else, and afterwards he says "I ought have shot that dog myself, George."(Steinbeck 61) This foreshadows that instead of letting the other men kill him, he was going to do it himself. The third example of foreshadowing is when Carlson was describing how he would shoot the dog. " The way i'd shoot him he wouldn't feel nothing. I'd put the gun right there." He pointed with his toe. "Right back of the head. He wouldn't even quiver."(Steinbeck 60) This is the way Lennie gets killed at the end of the book.
